On Tuesday the 7th of November, the entire SSSC cohort had the pleasure of spending the morning at the incredible Derby Velodrome. Pupils had access all areas to the impeccable facility located right next to Pride Park.
With help from our friends at the Amber Valley Sports Partnership, pupils each accessed five different sporting activities throughout the morning. Fencing, wheel chair basketball, boccia, sit-down volleyball and for those brave enough cycling, really challenged the children’s sporting prowess.
The morning proved hugely enjoyable for all involved, as pupils were fortunate to access a range of sports they are not accustomed to. Fencing brought out pupil’s inner pirate, as numerous competitive and highly skilled battles commenced. Boccia showed off the impressive accuracy and subtle movements our pupils can demonstrate in tense situations. In terms of the wheel chair basketball, this proved to be a real favourite amongst the pupils and we are fortunate enough to have this incorporated into our PE curriculum this year across all key stages. Sit-down volleyball turned out to be far more energetic than the name suggests and involved plenty of shuffling around. Finally, concerning the cycling those students who wished to go onto the track showed no fear as they raced around the astonishingly steep corners.
Pupil’s behaviour was superb throughout the event and we have plenty of exciting sporting events to look forward to over the coming months.
