The Humanities subjects are History and Geography.
Humanities are taught at KS2, KS3 and KS4. At KS2 Geography and History are often taught as a ‘Theme’ e.g. China and Africa, in these lessons they look at both the history and geography of these countries.
Students at KS3 have two lessons a week (40 minutes each lesson) for Geography and History following a varied and relevant curriculum. In Humanities, students develop their understanding of the world and how different societies have developed over time. Students look at the world around them and see the way that it impacts upon people’s everyday lives. In history pupils will compare time periods to their own life and to other historical periods using a range of sources.
At KS4 pupils have one 40 minute lesson a week. Pupils complete qualifications towards these subjects, in Year 10 pupils study Geography and in Year 11 History. The last year has offered OCR Entry Level Geography, OCR Entry Level History and an Entry 3 Crime and Punishment Aim Award with a new Entry 3 Volcanoes and Earthquakes Aim Award introduced this year.
