Two KS3 English classes came together to take part in a debate on whether social media should be banned. Pupils used their research skills to explore the proposed UK-wide ban and formed two groups: one arguing for the ban and the other against it.
They worked collaboratively in their teams to discuss their ideas, gather evidence, and develop clear reasoning to support their arguments.
During Friday’s lesson, pupils hosted a formal debate with a guest judge, His Honour Judge Parry. All students presented their viewpoints confidently, aiming to persuade the judge to support their side.
After an intense and engaging debate, it was decided that social media should not be banned. Instead, the conclusion was that clearer guidance and expectations should be established to ensure it is used more responsibly.
Well done to all students involved—they demonstrated excellent teamwork, communication, and critical thinking skills.
